THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT CHALLENGE
For many young people around the world, full-time formal employment is a distant dream.
This is because marginalized youth often:
1. Lack skills — including market-aligned occupational skills, digital literacy, and workplace professionalism.
2. Lack an understanding of the job search process — including how to write a CV and present themselves in a job interview.
3. Lack connections to formal sector employers — oftentimes they don’t know where to begin looking for a living-wage job.
SAMASOURCE DIGITAL BASICS
Equipping marginalized women and youth with the skills, confidence, and support they need to secure a living-wage job.
WRAP-AROUND SUPPORT SERVICES
Marginalized youth face many barriers to formal employment. Even minor expenses can cause someone living in poverty to drop out of training or miss a job interview. Samasource Digital Basics addresses this challenge by providing trainees with a host of wrap-around support services that help them complete the transition from training to employment.
Many trainees are young mothers and single parents. We ensure that trainees with children have access to free childcare so that they can focus on learning.
Many trainees lack the means to acquire appropriate professional attire. We provide free clothes to ensure trainees look their best when they go for job interviews.
Transportation fees can add up during the job search. We provide students with travel stipends to ensure they can afford to get to and from their job interviews.
At the conclusion of training, every student is matched with an instructor mentor who supports the student throughout their transition to employment.
