The adoption of Agenda 2063 by the Africa Union (AU) and the Agenda 2030 by the United Nations (UN) are firm commitments to address the most important challenges affecting the continent and a determination to make Africa and the world a better place to live. The SDGs are expected to influence the course of the history of humanity in the next fourteen years, while tackling issues such as poverty, inequality and unemployment, which are crucial to Africa. The implementation of SDGs will require the participation of all, Leaving No One Behind.
African youth have an important role to play in pushing governments to formulate comprehensive policies and incorporate the agenda into national development strategies. The mantra of “Leave No One Behind” means the inclusion of all especially the poorest and most marginalized, youth, women and children. At the May 2013 AU Summit, African countries echoed the same sentiments and committed to realizing seven aspirations which are to be “driven by its own citizens and represent a dynamic force in the global arena”.
