For Kenyan ‘social entrepreneurs’

(Under construction but will continue to add… for now, google your heart out.)

A few resources for social entrepreneurs in Kenya, which are actually based here in Nairobi. Mostly fellowships or incubators, but also occasional events you can check out…

  • Ashoka East Africa – “Ashoka was the first organization to publicly recognize social entrepreneurs as a major driving force in transforming human welfare in the East African region…”
  • Acumen Fund – “Acumen started investing in East Africa in 2001 and now our East Africa portfolio is one of our largest under management. Our investments span from solar energy, to mobile-enabled supply chain solutions for farmers, to long lasting anti-malarial bed nets, to cotton ginning, and more…”
  • Unreasonable Institute – “Annually we unite 12-15 high-impact entrepreneurs from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania at a 5-week bootcamp in Kampala, Uganda. There we provide them with a customised curriculum, access to world-class mentorship, a dense concentration of capital sources and a global network of support… Entrepreneurs hailing from East Africa tackling some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges we face.”
  • Spark Kenya – application process open now until November 2015 (we’d previously posted about them, too) “The Spark* Accelerator Program is a powerful opportunity for passionate impact entrepreneurs in Kenya who are at the early stages of building businesses and organisations that exist to change the lives of Kenyans…”
  • GrowthHub
  • Amani Institute – Occasional events and reports, regular blog, Facebook page – They also have a fellowship, and some people can be sponsored. “Preparing next-generation talent to tackle global challenges by filling the gap between university and the workforce through a new approach to higher education.”
