Arterial Network Kenya (ANK) is an arts-based organisation, founded in 2010. Our mission is to serve as the unifying voice of the arts and culture sector within the country so that it takes up issues on behalf of the sector and creates linkages amongst artists…

Our achievements are structured through a series of milestones that include:

  1. a)  Founding of Arterial Network Kenya Chapter October 2010 
  2. b)  Election of the current Steering Committee March 2013 
  3. c)  Monthly Steering Committee meetings 
  4. d)  Participation in sector workshops 
  5. e)  Development of monthly art and culture forums (Catch – Ups) – April 2013 to date 
  6. f)  Participation with key partners in the art and culture sector e.g. Creative Economy working group June 2013 to date

g) Co- hosting of The African Creative Economy Conference December 2011 with the GoDown Arts Centre

An exciting opportunity exists for someone with senior level experience in communications and fundraising to help Arterial Network Kenya achieve its ambitious goals for 2014 and beyond.

These activities are to be pursued in consultation with the Directors of the Association.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. COORDINATION OF ACTIVITIES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF DECISIONS

1.1 To drive the coordination and implementation of the Chapter’s , strategic and operational plan

1.2 To ensure that the quality of the delivery of the activities is of a consistently high standard.

1.3 To take corrective action in consultation with Chapter Steering Committee as necessary in the implementation and coordination of activities.

1.4 To be responsible, together with the Chairperson of the National Chapter, for the implementation of decisions taken by Arterial Network’s General Council and Steering Committee as and when they affect the national chapter.

1.5 Recruiting volunteers to help coordinate AN-K activities on a need to basis

Plan, coordinate, and implement all training sessions, seminars, conferences and events related to the projects including but not limited to:

All logistics related to travel and accommodation (visa, bookings etc)All logistics related to training sessions (venue, transport, materials, catering, administration etc)

2.0 ADMINISTRATION

2.1 To ensure that minutes are taken of all Steering Committee and members’ meetings and that these are filed appropriately.
2.2 With the Chapter’s Treasurer/ Accountant to manage the budget, including but not limited to monthly reporting to funders and Steering Committee.

2.2. Coordinate the annual audit and implement recommendations thereof.
2.3 To prepare the agenda for all Steering Committee meetings in association with the Chairperson of the Chapter.
2.4 To coordinate the logistics of all meetings including travel, venue, catering, etc
2.5 To maintain sound records of finances, membership, minutes, plans, etc in an effective filing system.
2.6 To record and distribute minutes of meetings to Steering Committee members within 72 hours of the meeting

2.7 Ensure effective and efficient running of the ANK office, including management of assets

2.8 Coordinate all logistics for the Annual General Meeting and ensure that all governance and best practise procedures are adhered to.

2.9 Prepare terms of references, source quotes and proposals for the appointment of service providers where required.

3.0 COMMUNICATION

3.1 Develop the communications strategy for ANK training and processes, both locally and internationally, and be responsible for its successful implementation within agreed budgets.

3.2 Collect feedback from members and partners, and ensure high levels of satisfaction.

3.2.1 Analyse the same to continuously improve execution, increase audiences, and to inform the overall organisation strategy

3.3 Handle media relations and proactively disseminate information on a regular basis about the activities and successes of ANK.
3.3.1 Manage ANK’s online presence with a view to increasing its impact on social media, and where appropriate, mobile media campaigns.

3.3.2 To develop and maintain ANK membership database and ensure regular updates to Arterial Network Secretariat on the same

3.3.3 Develop corporate and membership policies and initiate systems and processes to ensure that they are followed and monitored.

3.4 To represent the Chapter as required at appropriate events, forums, conferences, etc. To devise and distribute a monthly newsletter to all databases in order to build the brand of the chapter and to keep key stakeholders informed of developments within the chapter.

4.0 FUNDRAISING

4.1 To mobilize resources by successfully identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to increase funding diversity and strengthen relationships with the existing network of donors and supporters.

4.2 To prepare timely programme and financial reports that comply with donor and organizational internal policies, and manage submission of the same.

4.3 To drive the implementation of the fundraising strategy.

4.4 To ensure that the Chapter conforms to Arterial Network’s fundraising protocol and principles.

4.5 To provide narrative and financial reports to funding partners as contractually required.

5.0 REPORTS

5.1 To submit monthly reports to both the local steering committee and the Continental Secretariat of Arterial Network

5.2 To submit annual narrative and financial reports for inclusion in the continental secretariat’s reports to donors and members.

5.3. To liaise with the Continental Secretariat for national chapters as required.

6.0 MONITORING AND EVALUATION

6.1 To help develop processes for evaluating ANK projects and any other activities run by ANK and continuously measure progress towards the achievement of project outputs and objectives, and identify challenges and opportunities to feedback into the strategic plan.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Bachelors Bachelor’s degree in Art , Social sciences and Humanities and/or law 
  • At least three years’ experience in arts management/administration and fundraising 
  • Strong work ethic and problem solving skills 
  • Able to multi-task with a high level of independence 
  • Strong computer and general business skills (Microsoft work, including excel) 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Length of Contract: Six month evaluation, 1 year renewable
