Director of Social Change Talent Recruitment 

Although only 2 years old and still in start-up phase, Amani Institute is growing rapidly and will soon have education programs running throughout the year. These programs are primarily held in Kenya and Brazil, with other locations to follow but are offered to a worldwide audience, having participate in our programs people from over 30 different countries. The team is globally diverse, entrepreneurial, and values the whole individual as much as their professional ability.

The core responsibility of the Director of Social Change Talent Recruiter position is …

to manage and lead the selection process for all education programs. This position can be based anywhere in the world, though strong preference is given to candidates with authorization to work in any of the following countries: USA, Kenya, Brazil. Relocation and/or periodic travel to one of these three countries is also a strong possibility.

Salary commensurate with experience and location – and considering we are a non-profit organization in its early stage

Key Responsibilities

  •     Manage the selection and interview process for all Amani Institute programs
  •     Define recruiting and outreach strategy; find new, creative ways to attract distinctive participants 
  •     Harness the most effective channels, media and events in order to do so
  •     Present Amani Institute convincingly to potential participants 
  •     Screen applications from across the globe, lead selection decision meetings, and manage all follow up questions from applications, including the enrollment/registration process
  •     Play active role in supporting participants during the program and as alumni 
  •     Work in a closely-knit, fast-growing, diverse, global team 

Required Characteristics and Experience

  •     Evidence of being a doer – high degree of performance and self-accountability
  •     Passion for social change
  •     Passion for helping individuals achieve their full potential
  •     High degree of maturity and judgment in understanding the communication styles, needs and desires of individuals from vastly different cultural and professional backgrounds
  •     High degree of applied empathy
  •     Significant work experience (at least 7 years), with some experience in the social change sector
  •     Project management experience, ideally for global projects
  •     Good knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
  •     Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  •     Bachelor’s degree (in any field);
  •     Good knowledge of Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter)
  •     Good writing and public speaking skills
  •     Demonstrated record in global networking

Preferred Experience

(although not required in order to apply, possessing any of these characteristics will be a distinctive advantage)

  •     Experience in talent recruiting and admissions for leading education programs
  •     Experience in or knowledge of the higher education sector
  •     Experience of living in a country other than one’s home country
  •     Fluency in Portuguese
  •     Knowledge in data platforms and online tools such as salesforce and survemonkey

Internships:

One of the best ways to enter the work force is to do an internship to prove your skills and abilities. The Amani Internship will allow you to live in Nairobi, Kenya, or Sao Paulo, Brazil, better understand the higher education sector, have a comprehensive idea about how social change works and gain practical skills around communication, management and research. Each intern can also take up to 2 short courses for free. The internship position is for a minimum of 3 months and is unpaid. 

For Internships in Nairobi, apply before:

  • 1st January 2014 (for the period February 2014-April 2014, with possibility to extend)
  • 1st March 2014 (for the period May-July 2014 with possibility to extend)

For internships in Sao Paulo, apply before:

  • 1st July 2014 (for the period August-October, with possibility to extend)
